What do you do when Anders asks, "Want to do a little sightseeing? Private tour guided by yours truly."

You say, "Yes! I'd love that," and hop in the car.

Into the Volvo station wagon, you go. It's the car everybody and their mom drives in Sweden and the Sundins are no exception; adventure must be had in this road trip machine.

The family gets into 2 cars

First stop: Österlen

You do a little curtsy. "Hello, Baltic Sea. It's nice to meet you."

Hmm. "You're quite calm. Not the crashing waves of the Pacific I'm used to."

No Swedish summer in sight. Feels just like California for the time being. Dry heat. Sweat. But nothing unbearable. Just a beat of summer.

ales stones

The main attraction here is actually a mysterious monument known as Ales Stenar. 59 boulders just chillin' out in an oval, or what is supposedly the shape of a ship. Nobody knows the reason why they were set up this way, or who was behind this idea, either. Scientists think the stones have been out here since the year 550ish.

Apparently the only souvenir I came away with was this far away shot of Ales Stenar. Welp. No surprises there; I'd rather be hanging cliffside, gazing out into the sea. I don't mean any offense; it's just the open landscape here had me at hello.

sheep of skane

I mean, why stop at stones, when there are sheep role-playing their own version of Ales Stenar? Baaaa~

We relaxed, we gazed, we sat. Well, we went down the cliff to the shore actually.

GLIMMINGEHUS

A quick drive by the Glimmingehus Manor, and then we were on our way back to Malmö.
